opengl without a window

I would like to know if Opengl can be used in non-windowing enviroment ,like a command line OS example dos.

With Mesa ( www.mesa3d.org ) you can use OpenGL in many environments, including Linux frambuffer console and DOS. But you won’t get hardware acceleration on most of these platforms.
