I assume those of you who develop any serious application use some sort of mesh format. I wonder what the better choice is in this regard. Custom format? Using formats like 3DS seems like overkill for embedded application.
I’m using a derivative of M3D. I wrote a converter from Wavefront OBJ. Plan to hook this up directly as exporter in Maya.
Have you looked at OpenMesh?
