Minnefield: can't create a OSMesa pseudo-PBuffer

Hi,

I can’t run any webGL demo, here is what I get :


Canvas 3D: creating PBuffer...
Canvas 3D: can't get a native PBuffer, trying OSMesa...
Canvas 3D: can't create a OSMesa pseudo-PBuffer.

I use libOSMesa 7.8.1 compiled using these instructions → http://www.guciek.net/en/3d/osmesa_webgl

webgl.enabled_for_all_sites and webgl.software are set to true
webgl.osmesalib = /usr/lib/libOSMesa.so

I’ve been trying to get webgl working for two weeks now, can someone help me to get rid of this problem ?

I have the same problem on my Debian (squeeze) machine using hardware renderer and nvidia driver v195.36.24.

The interesting thing is that under Mandriva 2010 everything was working just fine. Then I installed Debian and this error started to appear. Other 3d software (like Blender) is working without any glitches.

AnderCover try using the non-open-source driver from your Video card manufacturer. It might help.

I have the same issue following same instructions with same version of Mesa. I’m on Ubuntu Lucid on a Dell Mini 9.

My normal graphics card is Intel® 945GME, so I don’t have any better drivers to install.

Is this a Debian issue for some reason? I haven’t dug into source.

Not a Debian issue. I tested it on OpenSUSE and it still doesn’t work.

I tried to use fglrx but it was even worse. No matter what I try I either got stuck on the “ActiveTexture” problem or this one…
Monday is a legal holiday in France so I can’t do anything until tuesday, but maybe someone know where I can get information on how OSMesa deal with PBuffer, it seems this is where things start to go wrong.

I downloaded a week older build and, owwww joy, everything worked perfectly. Two days lost blaming the kernel and the driver, while it was a regression issue.

AnderCover, I noticed in your glxinfo output that your server version (1.2) and client version (1.4) are different. This site recommends running the fallowing commands (for NVIDIA):


# NVVER=`dpkg -s nvidia-glx|grep Version|cut -d ' ' -f2|cut -d '-' -f1`
# ln -fs /usr/lib/libGL.so.$NVVER /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so
# ln -fs /usr/lib/libGL.so.$NVVER /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1
# ln -fs          libGL.so.$NVVER /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

You can easily replace the NVVER directly with your version.

If this doesn’t fix the problem try using a different build of firefox, maybe you have and regression problem, too.

Hmm. It might be that those instructions have been made out-of-date by changes to Firefox: http://learningwebgl.com/blog/?p=2224&cpage=1#comment-3407 says that the Mesa library now needs gl_ prefixes, not mgl_

They are still the only way to make it work, because the current builds are broken.

WHEN a non-broken build appears, I will update that instructions page to account for the mgl to gl change. For now, the page contains a warning to use an older build. (And note that this warning has been there since 22.05. Guess you didn’t actually look at the page with instructions…)

It finally works, I’ve compiled Mesa-7.8.1 using gl namespace and I downloaded a new Minnefield build.
